Abstract

Controversia aims to present its readers with a panoramic view of the reality of Colombian trade unionism, starting from its past history to describe in broad outline its current behaviour. The first four chapters of this study are devoted to the historical part. Then the situation of trade unionism under the two-party regime of the National Front is described: the main labour conflicts, the government's labour policy, the emergence of new workers' centres such as the CSTC and the CGT are mentioned, with special emphasis on the political evolution of the UTC. Finally, an approach to the present time is sought, in order to present the trade union situation under the mandate of the president, Alfonso López Michelson.
