ABSTRACT

The Monserrate Textile Enterprise Strike as The Beginning of the Clearance Sale of Fedenal (1945)

This article describes deeply two important strikes carried out in the forty´s in the last century. The first one was done by the Monserrate textile workers in October of the 1945 in Bogotá. The second one was developed by the Port workers who were joined to The Sea, River, Port and Air National Federation (FEDENAL). This second strike was also carried in December of the same year in different ports in this country. Even though, these two strikes had been superficially explored by the Colombian historiography, this article goes further and describes the difficult workers’ conditions that caused these strikes. In addition to that, this paper states that the antiunionism policies were not a practice just done by the conservative goverments, but these polices were also planned and applied by Alfonso Lopez Pumarejo and Alberto Lleras Camargo in their liberal goverments. Another important aspect developed in this article is the political bi-party union settled in order to dismantle workers strikes.

Key Words: Social Strikes, Workers Strikes, Unionism, Alfonso Lopez Pumarejo, Alberto Lleras Camargo, Gaitanismo, Antiunionism, Conviviality.</p>}, number={196}, journal={REVISTA CONTROVERSIA}, author={Moreno Martínez, Orlando}, year={2011}, month={feb.}, pages={256-283} }
